Salary: $56,120 – $67,345 (DOQ)

As a key member of the Development Services Department, the Plans Reviewer/Inspector reports directly to the Director of Development Services. This position performs both technical plan reviews and field inspections to ensure compliance with adopted building codes, zoning regulations, and municipal ordinances. The role ensures that residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects meet all applicable city, state, and federal requirements for safety, accessibility, and quality.
Plan Review Duties:
• Review residential and commercial construction plans for compliance with currently adopted building codes, standards, and municipal regulations.
• Ensure adherence to zoning ordinances, subdivision requirements, and other applicable city codes and state statues.
• Verify that all projects meet minimum life safety requirements, including occupancy, accessibility, emergency egress, fire resistance, structural integrity, and air quality.
• Issue plan review comments, coordinate plan corrections, and approve permits in collaboration with developers, architects, and engineers.
• Maintain accurate records of plan reviews, approvals, and related correspondence.
• Provide technical assistance and code interpretation to applicants, contractors, and city staff.
Inspection Duties:
• Conduct on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction projects at various stages to verify compliance with approved plans and applicable codes.
• Inspect foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire safety systems.
• Issue correction notices, stop-work orders, and certificates of occupancy when appropriate.
• Conduct or assist with special inspections, including stormwater compliance and ADA accessibility reviews.
Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities:
• Maintain digital and physical records of permits, plan reviews, and inspections in accordance with city retention policies.
• Participate in pre-development meetings to advise developers and design professionals on city requirements.
• Assist in the review and updating of city codes, ordinances, and development standards.
• Testify in court proceedings or hearings related to code enforcement or violations when required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Development Services.
