Court Security & Dress Code

 

Attire

All persons present in the courtroom shall be clean, neat, and dressed in a manner that shows dignity and respect for the Court.

Unacceptable Attire includes:

  • Hats
  • Shorts, rompers, or cutoffs
  • Muscle shirts or tank tops
  • Clothing with offensive, vulgar, racist, sexist, obscene, or suggestive words, slogans, depictions, or pictures, including grotesque creatures
  • Clothing that is dirty, torn, and ragged
  • Provocative clothing that is designed, styled, or worn to provoke emotion or to disrupt or distract
  • Flip-flops

 

Conduct

PRO SE parties (non-attorneys representing themselves) should be prepared to present their cases in a proper manner. It is NOT the Court’s duty, nor the responsibility to protect or represent you, nor instruct you on court procedure, evidence, rules, or how to present and prove your case.

  • Be punctual
  • NO video recording devices are permitted in the courtroom
  • Address the Court as “Judge”, “Your Honor” or “Sir”.
  • Do NOT approach the Judge’s bench without permission. Stand behind the table, not to the side of the table. Do not rest arms or hands on the bench.
  • Do NOT argue with the Court.
  • Do NOT talk at the same time as the Court, opposing counsels, or witnesses.
  • NO food or drinks are allowed in the courtroom.
  • Do NOT disturb or distract the Court, counsels, witnesses, or other court personnel. Children must not create a disturbance or shall be kept out of the courtroom.
  • Racist, sexist, obscene, or profane language or gestures are prohibited unless it is pertinent to the case and is elicited and quoting from the facts of the case.
  • Do NOT enter and depart the courtroom excessively.
  • Cell phones and electronic devices shall be turned off or placed in silent mode.
  • Any questions before the Court begins need to be directed to the Bailiff.
