The City of Jarrell, Texas has an open position for the Police Chief
Jarrell is well into the beginning phases of rapid growth supported by the attraction of population and jobs in the Central Texas Corridor. For the individual that wants to make their professional advancement in a growing dynamic environment, we are the place.
History:
Jarrell, Texas was incorporated in 2001 as a Type A, General Law City. Sonterra M.U.D. is the 9th fastest growing planned development community in the nation and is within the ETJ and has a close working relationship with the City. The City built a new City Hall in 2013 to support Administration, E.D.C and Police services. It was expanded again in the spring of 2018 to support the rapid growth of essential services. We have recently purchased additional land in the south part of the City on the I-35 corridor to support Police Department expansion.
The City has an Emergency Management Coordinator and has implemented the supporting policies and procedures to support such activity. The Police department has been expanded in recent years to include a Training/Community Policing position and 7 full-time Patrol Officers and 2 School Resource Officers. The City has both Water and Wastewater services.
The Community:
Jarrell is in the northern part of Williamson County along the I-35 corridor. Jarrell was founded in 1909 as a ranching and farming community. Population growth in the Jarrell Independent School District is expanding as well. They had a 25% increase in the 2021-2022 school year. Projected new students for the 2022-2023 school year is 700. The new bridges supporting the extension of Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Jarrell were completed in 2022. This will bring a new level of commercial activity to the City. Sales Tax revenues have grown by 13% over the last 3 years. Traffic patterns and growth are changing rapidly. TxDot has completed 2 new bridges over I-35 to connect both sides of the City and are scheduled to complete a major interchange on the south part of the City which will allow traffic to divert to western Williamson County from Jarrell.
What We Need From You:
- Ability to work closely with City Manager to carry out the will of the City Council.
- Provide Strategic Planning and Implementation of Community Policing Policies.
- Ability to work with local Independent School District and Emergency Service District to provide integrated coverage and support.
- Strong Skills in Motivating and Training law enforcement personnel.
Candidate Evaluation Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in Police Science, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice or other related fields highly desired. Equivalent progressively responsible experience maybe considered in lieu of educational attainment.
- At least 5 years of progressive responsible experience in Law Enforcement.
- History of managing and monitoring work performance of individuals within the department as well as program/work objectives and effectiveness.

- Salary Range: Up to $110,000 based on experience/qualifications.
