Building Inspector


The City of Jarrell is seeking applications for a full-time Building Inspector to provide excellent customer service. Manages and may perform a variety of routine and complex technical reviews in building plan review, and inspection to ensure that adopted building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and other codes and State standards are met. Must be familiar with building construction systems including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, gas, and fire protection. Provides field enforcement of UDC, and construction standards. Reviews construction plans, writes field reports, maintains official records, and assists the development community in person and over the phone. Inspect, monitor, and investigate residential and commercial premises to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances determine the nature of violations and/or unsafe conditions and steps necessary for compliance; advise and educate violators of required action; and issue notices of violations and citations, as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) years of experience in general construction or related fields; and
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Any combination of the following: Licensed as a Plumbing Inspector by the State Board of Plumbing Examiners; Certified in International Code Council as either a building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy code inspector or combination inspector, or the ability to get certifications within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • A valid Texas driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Basic computer knowledge

 

Preferred Qualification:

  • Ability to review and inspect fire codes.
  • Knowledge of My Government Online

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

 

Salary/Benefits: The pay range is $45,000 to $60,000 annually; and will depend upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. The City offers Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401K retirement plan, paid time off, and 12 Holidays during the calendar year.  Paid training and growth advancement opportunities are available.
